The bather's guide

Spa visitors are, along with the water, the essence of the spa. Since the first Bath Regulation in 1817, doctors had to complete statistical reports gathering information on the assistance and the therapeutic results, in which they also noted whether patients were military, wealthy or very poor. The latter could reach significant proportions in some regions and resorts somehow having their trip paid by their municipalities. More numerous, however, were the wealthy although this category was very open because it included the wealthiest visitors that would go to the most famous luxurious resorts and the more modest clients that went to smaller family establishments. For all the swimmers, the bathers' guides accounted for therapeutic information as well as for entertainment with some advertising anticipating offers of health tourism.
